In the early 1950s, Ignazio Gentile, a young man from a small town in Sicily, set out to build a
better life for his family. He and his wife brought with them the traditions, values, and flavours
of home — the foundation of everything Café Gentile stands for today.

In 1959, Ignazio opened the first Café Gentile-a humble espresso bar that became a Montreal
landmark known for its warm atmosphere, great coffee, delicious meals, and a sense of
community.

His son Antonio later carried the torch, expanding the menu with his wife Teresa and continuing the family’s commitment to quality and hospitality.

 

With the help of their children, Café Gentile
grew into a place where Italian inspired meals and authentic family warmth came together.
In 2016, the next generation carried the legacy forward by opening Café Gentile Westmount,
bringing the Gentile name to a new neighbourhood while keeping the same traditions alive.

In 2020 the family introduced Gentile Pizza Parlour-a sister restaurant born from a passion for authentic pizza made with only the finest and freshest ingredients.

Today, four generations of the Gentile family proudly carry that legacy forward. Each
generation has upheld the same values of quality, tradition, and hard work that began more
than sixty years ago.

In 2025, the Gentile family is proud to open the Cafe Gentile West Island- an area where the
family grew up and a dream they had envisioned for years. Teresa and Tony are blessed and
honoured to see their children and grandchildren carry the Gentile legacy, working side by side
to welcome a new community into the family tradition.

Times may have changed, but our commitment to quality, tradition, and community never has.
